Terms of use
Updated October 27, 2026
The rules between you and Sidebrain, in plain words. By creating an account, you accept them. The French version is the reference one.
Purpose
These terms govern the use of Sidebrain, a memory assistant published by [publisher's name or company name, see the legal notice] (“the publisher”). Sidebrain keeps what you give it (notes, documents, voice notes), draws entries and links from them, answers your questions and reminds you of what matters at the right time.
What Sidebrain does with your personal data is described in the privacy policy, which is part of these terms.
Your account
- You must be at least [minimum age, for example 15] to create an account.
- The information you give when signing up must be accurate, and the email address your own.
- Your account is personal. Keep your password to yourself: anything done from your account is deemed done by you.
- If you think someone else has access to it, change your password and tell us: [contact email address].
Price of the service
Sidebrain is currently free, no card required. The publisher may cap usage (number of files, of questions to the assistant…) to keep the service usable for everyone.
If a paid plan comes, it will be announced at least [notice period, for example 30 days] in advance, with its prices and terms. Nothing will be charged without your explicit consent, and you will always be able to retrieve or delete your data first.
What you agree not to do
- upload or spread unlawful content: infringing other people's rights, hateful, child sexual abuse material, counterfeit;
- use Sidebrain to harass, deceive or spy on anyone, or to send unsolicited messages;
- try to access another account's data, get around the service's limits or protections, or overload it;
- automate requests at scale, resell access or scrape the service to build another one.
In case of a serious breach, the publisher may suspend or close the account, after warning you unless there is an emergency or a legal obligation.
Your content stays yours
You remain the owner of everything you upload and of what Sidebrain draws from it for you. You only grant the publisher the right to store, process and display it to you, for as long and as far as needed to provide the service. This right ends when you delete the content or your account.
Your content is used neither for advertising nor to train AI models. You warrant that you are entitled to upload what you upload (someone else's document, for example).
The limits of AI
The assistant's answers, entries, summaries, transcriptions and reminders are generated automatically by artificial intelligence models. They can be wrong: misread a date, miss a detail, invent a link that does not exist, or arrive late (phone off, notifications disabled, outage).
- Check what matters before acting on it.
- Do not rely on Sidebrain for anything urgent or vital: taking medication, a medical appointment, a legal or financial deadline. Keep another way to remember it.
- Sidebrain does not give medical, legal or financial advice. In an emergency, call 112.
Google, external services (MCP) and confirming actions
You can connect Sidebrain to Google Calendar, Gmail and Google Drive, or to external services through the MCP protocol. These services remain governed by their own terms, and the publisher is not responsible for how they work or for what they do with the data you have them sent.
Sidebrain asks for your confirmation before any action that changes something outside of it: creating an event, sending an email, calling an MCP tool that writes. Read the proposal before confirming: once confirmed, the action is yours. You can cut each connection at any time in the Settings.
Availability
The publisher does its best to keep Sidebrain running continuously and your data backed up, without being able to guarantee it: maintenance, outages at hosting providers or AI model providers can interrupt it. Planned maintenance is announced when possible. The service and its features may change; a major feature that goes away is announced in advance.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account at any time from the Settings. Your account and your whole memory (notes, files, entries, conversations, reminders, connections) are then erased, backups following the period stated in the privacy policy. Remember to keep a copy of what you need first.
The publisher may close an account inactive for [inactivity period], after warning you by email at least [notice period] before, or in case of a serious breach of these terms. Should it shut Sidebrain down, it would warn you at least [notice period, for example 60 days] before so you can retrieve your data.
Liability
The publisher is liable for direct damage caused by a breach of its obligations. It is not liable for damage resulting from misuse of the service, from an AI answer or reminder followed without checking, from a third-party service you connected, or from force majeure.
Nothing in these terms limits the rights the law grants you as a consumer.
Changes to these terms
These terms may change, for example when the service evolves or the law requires it. Any significant change is announced by email or in the app at least [notice period, for example 30 days] before it takes effect. If you disagree, you can delete your account first; continuing to use Sidebrain afterwards means you accept them.
Governing law, disputes and mediation
These terms are governed by French law. In case of disagreement, first write to [contact email address]: we will look for a solution together.
Failing an agreement, you can refer the matter free of charge to the consumer mediator: [name, postal address and website of the consumer mediator], within one year of your written complaint.
Failing an amicable solution, the dispute falls under the competent French courts; as a consumer, you may also bring it before the court of your place of residence.
